Ever since Wednesday I feel so much more connected with our baby boy! It really is amazing how once they're not just in "it", the feelings get so much stronger. I didn't think it was even possible b/c I already loved this baby so much. But now I daydream about what he'll be like and how everything will be. Nothing in the nursery is really changing, but I had picked out some cute artwork at Target that was new to the store that would have gone really well w/ our natural theme. But a lot of it was very flowery, even though none was pink, that I don't want to use it anymore, so I've been thinking of other artwork ideas.
I went to Jo Ann Fabrics today because I needed some buttons for the baby bootees I am making (same as the other ones, but they're a chocolate brown color). The two buttons on the right are what I'll use for the bootees (I wish that all buttons came in 4 packs!
haha) which I think will be really cute. Then I picked up those cool wood buttons to use on something (possibly a hat or sweater for Lucas) and loved the cute little blue lamb ones. I will find something to knit for those, too. :)

While I was there, I remembered an idea I've seen people do on the nest/bump boards in the past. You buy 12x12 scrapbook paper and then either frame it as is or get those plain canvas boards at a craft store and glue the papers on (like decoupage) to have a canvas piece of artwork. I love this idea because it's simple, fairly cheap, and can be really original. At first I planned to frame them, but I think I like the look of the canvas better so I am going to play around with that idea and see what I can come up with. (Knitting is the extent of my craftiness).
But here are the papers I bought. I plan to do a set of 3, probably on the wall across from the crib (since the crib will have some sort of tree like stencil near it) which is the only only wall w/out a window in the middle. So they'll be over/near the changing table.
I need to decide what I want to do though in terms of adding color. I planned to keep everything in creams, browns, white, tans, etc, but couldn't find many papers to match that weren't covered in flowers of some sort. Then I came across some blue, teal, and/or chocolate brown papers and liked those too, so we may add a bit of blue to the room to give Lucas some boy color :)
Please take a look at each "set" I've put together and let me know what you think and what you like best. I've included a picture of our nursery inspiration (which actually shows our furniture, bedding, chair and fabric) if that helps. I think you can click each picture to enlarge it.
I am not sure if these will work for the canvas b/c it's textured paper. Same as the little birds in the set above....

These are the only ones that don't add color. Not sure if they're too
girly or not or if they would just look classy.

I really like the polka dots (esp b/c some of our sheets are dots), but wasn't sure 3 of the same dots would look good so I added that flower one. Not sure if that's too
girly. This is more of a blue like the Restoration Hardware 'silver sage' color.

I thought this might be really cute too.

Ignore the bird (the set of 3) pictures in this. I am not going to get those b/c they are a bit too feminine I think, but I will hopefully get that other birdie picture (the tan and brown one).
Great ideas! It looks like its going to all work out great! I wish I could knit! Hopefully I can find other ways to be a bit crafty! As far as the paper goes, definetly the secodn set, with the dots. It shoudl work even tho the paper is textured, try using mod pordge to adhere it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I realized after I posted this that Mod Podge would be good to use and I don't have to worry about the texture with it, so now that's not a concern. :)
