Bootees and Nursery Art

I finished the Lucas' first set of bootees! They are a bit big so he actually won't wear them for awhile, but I really like the way they came out. They're kind of a chocolate brown color w/ light blue/teal buttons I posted below. I am going to make a matching hat with the left over yarn.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon working on the canvas wall art. I decided to do 10x10 squares of that neutral pattern to give the room a little more grown up art work.
I think we'll hang them on a skinny wall (probably between the window and the corner) vertically, like this.
Then I worked on the bigger, 12x12, canvases. When I went to buy the canvases (which Hobby Lobby did not have the right ones, I still had to go back to Jo Ann) I found some more scrap book paper I liked. I decided to do a set of 3 in all different papers now that I found some in the same color blue. The top is white w/ little blue dots, then then blue and brown paisley, then the 'Baby Boy' one I posted below. We'll likely hang them side by side w/ the white/dots in the middle.

They were really, really easy to make! I just used Mod Podge and put a layer on the back of the paper and the canvas, then smoothed it over the top (smooth REALLY well, for a while to get bubbles out).... then every hour I applied another coat of Mod Podge over it all. They've probably got 3-4 coats on them and I might add some more. I'm not all that crafty besides knitting, so I'm pretty excited! They were so easy and affordable. The canvases were $4-8 (they were on sale when I bought them so even the big ones didn't cost more than $5) and each paper was $.50-.59. So simple!

  1. I just wanted to stop by and send my "best wishes" to you and your family on the rest of your pregnancy. I saw a post you made on The Bump and was taken by complete surprise at the name of your little boy. My Lucas Joseph was born this past November and I haven't seen or heard of another Lucas Joseph before! It made me smile! I've learned in four short months that little boys are the best!

  2. Leanne - thank you so much!
How funny that we are sing the same name - I've seen very few other Lucas' out there and definitely not another with his full name! Must be a good one :)
