Barn Trip

I am currently sitting in a chair on our front porch with the wind blowing just enough to make this unusually warm day (mid 80's?) so totally comfortable at this time of day. It's the simple things in life that are truly beautiful. My husband is on his way home from work and picking up sushi ingredients for me to make California Rolls for dinner. Doesn't get much better than that!

I went to the barn today and let me tell you, going to the barn to see my horse is proving to be more and more difficult lately...on one hand I welcome the barn trips because for a pregnant girl it's good exercise, but it's getting harder and harder.

They are redoing the barn and making a new tack room, bathroom, etc. so things are a little out of place at the moment so my box (think big rubbermaid boxes) has been put under someone else's box of stuff. Normally I wouldn't mind a bit of course, but no one was around when I went today and I was by myself (sometimes I go with my mom) so I had no choice but the lift the other box off of mine. I know we're not supposed to lift heavy things and this had to be at least 30 lbs, but I didn't have much of a choice. I needed to get my horse's stuff out in order to groom her and even just go get her from the pasture (her halter and leadrope were in my box).

It's the little things like that where half of me says "oh it's no big deal" and the other half says "crap, I shouldn't have done that" afterward.

Then, while this is a really good thing, my horse was finally moved out to a futher, bigger pasture this week. I had to walk pretty far to get her AND I chose not to wear my mud boots b/c I figured she'd be where she always is and I wouldn't need them. I was wrong considering I literally got stuck in the mud. It was so deep in one spot (deceptively!) that my actual shoe came off and my foot came up, but only after my entire bottom pant leg and sock was covered in mud. Ick.

But really it was nice she was way out there. The pasture is huge and she's got so many different surroundings like random trees, woods, etc that the environment is just perfect and she was happily standing in the shade of the woods when I finally got to her. Hopefully my trek wasn't too hard on Lucas though!

Then we get to picking feet - that's becoming harder as well, which really sucks. I'm not sure how I am going to do that when I am too big to even bend over.

Anyway, it was nice out at the barn today. I love it so much (I moved there in February for those who don't know) and the lack of drama and annoying brats out there is wonderful. The people are so kind and normal and believe in all of the same horse keeping practices I do which is a very nice change!

Happy Weekend everyone :)
