If you've been keeping up with my posts you will be so proud of me! After I posted about being interested in more friends around town, specifically friends with common interests, I started Googling. I thought for sure there has to be other women around my age that are having babies, have young children, and feel similar to me about birth, organic food, cloth diapering, attachment parenting, and other "green" things. I can't be the only "freak" here in the Bible Belt, right? :)
Turns out, I was right! A woman from who moved here from Chicago started a group for Green Moms around Nashville! (Hi Tracy if you are reading!) The group is set up online and there are about 20 woman in it. Many have toddlers or babies and it seems like about 5 of us are pregnant!
Even better is that the next meet up was this afternoon. Talk about finding something (Wednesday) just in time and jumping on it! That's not normally like me to be so outgoing like that and to show up at someone's house knowing no one, but I felt like it was a sign. Especially with what ended up happening today regarding another friend, but I'm not getting into that crap.
And wait...it gets even better... this get together was centered around cloth diapering! If you're a regular blog reader you can just imagine how exciting this would be to me. :)
Our hostess has a business in town for cloth diapers and other similar needs. Check it out at Green Pixy Baby! It was fun to see some of her stuff! I'm pretty set (as you can see by my post below) on diapers for the newborn stage, but will more than likely get some diapers from her as we go along. :) I did purchase this amazing smelling (seriously I could just use it to smell!) stain remover/soap though. I am excited to try it on any stains we get on our diapers...not to mention my husband can be a little messy and I have been looking for an eco friendly stain remover! Anyone use this?
We had a wonderful lunch and happily chatted about diapers and other related things. We also talked about natural birth since a few of us are pregnant. And I am sooo jealous that one of the woman in our group is giving birth next month at The Farm (yes, the Ina May farm!) How cool is that!?! A lot of the woman who already had kids had natural births so it was incredibly helpful and empowering to hear about that and realize that everything I believe and am preparing for IS possible and IS normal and can even be a wonderful experience if I let it. It's really good to be around people like that, especially as I am in the home stretch of this pregnancy. It certainly beats the male nurse I talked with yesterday who was shocked that I planned to go without an epidural! haha
Anyway, it was a wonderful experience and so nice to be around other moms like me. Not to mention every one's kids were just so adorable! It made me very excited to know that that would be me in just a few short weeks!
I'm looking forward to more get togethers and meeting more of the women (only about 1/2 attended this one) in the group! I guess Nashville can be a bit green :)
