We still needed a few last minute, albeit boring, essentials for Lucas so today my parents wanted to take my husband and me to Babies R Us to pick them up. Unfortunately they were things that could only be found there and we only have one BRU in middle Tennessee and I've heard not good things about it.
It was actually not as bad as what I was expecting! Kind of strange to be in a huge store carrying ONLY baby stuff! As we walked up and down the aisles I was so thankful that we've realized how much of that crap you really don't need or we do not need because we are cloth diapering, plan to breastfeed exclusively, etc. It's amazing how much stuff they can try to sell you and truly how little a newborn actually needs.
I was pretty impressed with their selection of organic and eco friendly products though. I got a a really nice organic mattress pad for the crib (we had just a cheap one by Carter's) as well as an organic changing pad. I had ordered extra sheets (one for the crib and one for the co sleeper) from Buy Buy Baby along with an organic changing pad cover, but we also got another changing pad cover at BRU, some more Gerber cloth diapers that are organic (for burp cloths, not actual diapering), and some flannel pads we can also use in the crib or co sleeper as a mattress protector.
So now we have all of the boring basic things and extras of said things which is great!
I've updated our "list" and it's really coming along well! The only major thing I still absolutely need to purchase is 2 dozen newborn/orange edge Green Mountain Diaper prefolds and a few snappis, as well as a pail liner and wet bag! I will probably order all that stuff next weekend.
