I can't do it. I can't order our crib bedding. I guess it's a good thing (or possibly a sign) that there is a waiting period on Paypal before I could pay the woman who was supposed to be making our bedding.
Don't get me wrong, I really, really want it and $200 for it to be made is way better than over $500 for the original, but I still cannot justify spending even $200 on CRIB BEDDING. I know that isn't a ton compared to a lot out there (most of the expensive stuff is the only stuff I like), but the fact for me is, it's useless. I have no problem spending that and more and something like a stroller, our glider, our co-sleeper, etc. But those things have a use. All I truly NEED for our crib is a sheet. I can get a sheet for around $20 from the Gap that is perfectly cute AND even organic. So how can I justify spending $200 for a bumper (which I don't know I feel comfortable even using or think I will even use much at all), a crib skirt (okay, I do want this, but I can get a simple one from the Gap too), a comforter (definitely don't need and won't use that), and an accent pillow. I mean really? WHY am I going to spend $200 on this stuff? And if I just scaled down to doing just the crib skirt and a sheet, then basically I am paying someone to make me a simple cream crib skirt and sheet. That seems dumb. Again, I can just order organic ones from the Gap for very cheap.
Maybe it's that Lucas will be here in just a few short months and I am freaking out about money when I stop working, but I just am having a hard time buying things that are purely decoration and won't even really be used. We are having to cut back a lot which I am fine with and doing without a lot of things I thought I 'needed', when in fact, I don't. And doesn't it make more sense for me, as someone who tries to live on the greener side of the street, to make do with less?

All your baby really *needs* is you :)
ReplyDelete... okay, and diapers are probably a good idea. LOL.
I had a friend whose little girl was so small when she was born, she didn't fit even the preemie clothes that were given to her. So they just wrapped her in a receiving blanket until she was 6 weeks old. They cosleep, so no nursery. It wasn't how I would do it, but it reminded me that much of what we do is for convenience, practicality, or fun, but not always necessity.
Tell me about it. Before Adalia, I was so excited about her crib bedding set and setting up the nursery. We spent $150 on her crib and $150 on her pack and play that she was supposed to sleep in our room with next to the bed, and from the day she came out she made it very clear she would be sleeping nowhere but right next to her mom. She sure taught me. and now I wouldn't have it any other way because snuggling next to her all night and waking up next to her little smiling face is the best feeling there is. But yeah, all of it really is a waste because she probably isn't leaving our bed anytime soon. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, we ended up chaning our minds on what bedding we went with, originally we were going to spend over $300 on it and when we sat down and started to think abou it, we realized it was pointless because we weren't going to use it, I ended up going with a 4 piece that I got for $100 instead and I will not be using the comforter other than as a play mat or something. Thinking it over, it would have been a better choice to do what you said and just buy the crib sheet's and skirt.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone for the comments ;) Part of me is sad b/c it was soooooo pretttty, but really, it is NOT useful and $200 is still $200. That could be spent on many other, way more important things that do have a use. It's all good. :)
