Lucas's First Sweater

FINALLY!!! I have been working on this forever (granted only a small bit at a time), but really, this is so much more time consuming than it looks. It's not difficult to knit at all (in fact, super easy), but for a baby sweater it does take FOREVER! I probably spent about 6 hours on it just this weekend and that was with it being pretty much all knit, just doing the details/assembling!

I've made two before (for two friends' little girls) and I always say when I am done with them that I am never making another one. But then I just love the way they come out, so I had to make Lucas one at least. But now, really, I am not making anymore! Time to find a new baby sweater pattern. :)

I use organic cotton yarn for them so mine seem to come out a little bigger (I followed the newborn size pattern) and heavier than intended, so it's really more like a sweater coat. I think it will be perfect for Winter and into Spring though to just through over a light outfit.

The original pattern calls for a ribbon tie instead of the buttons, but that wasn't going to work for little Lucas, so I figured out how to add button holes and did those instead. I'm really happy with how it came out with the buttons.

As I finished it last night, I held it up with the new Calvin Klein steal ($2.00!!!) of a sleeper I bought Friday and realized how cute they'd look together!
Here are the other two I made for my friends last year.

  1. Oh my gosh...so freaking adorable!!! Any chance that you want to make one to get paid? I'd love to have one for my daughter.....due in October...let me know if you're up for it and what you'd want to get paid....I have to be careful with the funds these days but just thought I'd ask. You are so very talented. And if not interested i totally understand....i mean you are 29wks pregnant. :) Just thought I'd ask.
Have a great night. beautiful sweater!

  2. Kitty,
That is really sweet and I am definitely flattered, but I'm not actually allowed to "sell" something I made from this pattern and also there is no way I could feel comfortable charging anyone the amount I would have to that it takes in time to make it. Like I mentioned, it's not that it's all that hard, it's just so time consuming (soooo many hours) that I'd have to charge someone way more than they'd want to pay for something so little!

Do you know how to knit or have any interest in learning? It's such a simple pattern that any beginner could definitely do...I can point you in the right direction if you are interested!
