New Books

After my midwife appointment today, it hit me just how fast Lucas will be arriving. Everyone says it goes by slow at the end, but I'm not so sure that will be the case for me. I feel like there are always more things I can do to prepare and while I am not wishing for him to be super late, I certainly am not one of those people that will want him out at 37/38 weeks either.

There are a few books I have really been wanting to get. I am in the middle of reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and have already learned so much that I found myself having to be careful of buying more books, saying the same things since I already know a lot about natural child birth and the "whys" behind it. Also, a lot of the Sears Family books are on my list, but after reading some of the reviews it seems that The Baby Book by them already has most of the information given in the individual books on each subject.

I used a gift card I had and was okay with Amazon's "slow" 5-9 day shipping so that was free! That is neat! I got the Hypnobirthing book which I have been wanting to look into. The reviews say it comes w/ the CD, but I didn't see anything about that in the description so we'll have to see. Either way, the reviews were overall wonderful and I am excited to have that AND Bradley to use.
The Baby Book. :) I've heard such good things about this and love that the Sears Family seems to believe in a lot of the same things we do (breastfeeding, natural child birth, attachment parenting, alternative vaccine schedules, etc). I am going to look through this and then decide if I absolutely need to get any of the individual books on those subjects.
This was recommended to me on a forum for us crunchy girls. :) Apparently it's great for husbands and other birth partners to read and since we sadly had to make the decision to not hire a doula, I am going to have my mom read this and have my husband read it as well.

  1. Have you ever thought about checking these books out at the library? HUGE money saver. They even have DVDs.

  2. Yeah, I do that for certain books, but all of these are ones I will need to keep to reference for awhile and stuff so I won't want to take them back. :( (If our library even has them, I'd be surprised!)
