Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Whole Foods, Jewel, etc.

This is pretty random and not really baby related, but oh well.

I LOVE Whole Foods. I can't quite say when my love affair first started with this store b/c it's been so long, but seriously, I think it's unhealthy to love a grocery store so much. There is just something about it. I love being there and the atmosphere. I am more than happy to spend my money there even. We have a Super Target that carries some organic products, but honestly they are actually more expensive there and when I buy Whole Food's own brand of things (which are yummy) it's no more expensive than anywhere else.

This is one thing I never understood when people gripe about it being so expensive. Yes, I agree you may pay a little more for meat and some produce if you're not used to buying organic produce, but it's all in what you want. It's important for my family and for Lucas growing inside me to not eat garbage. Like today, I stopped by after doing some work at my office to get things to make spaghetti this afternoon. Total craving for it and I have a sauce packet from a local company that makes really good sauce. I just needed some crushed tomatoes and pasta, and decided I'd make it a meat sauce. Instead of spending $7.99 on a lb of grass fed beef, I decided to go with just a half a pound for our sauce. Tons of meat isn't healthy anyway and I'd rather have quality over quantity - much like a lot of things in my life.

I also buy their own brand of 100% whole wheat organic pasta. It's incredibly good (ie: it does not taste like gritty cardboard like many brands do) and it's less than $2.00 a bag. So much healthier than the white stuff and really not all that expensive! I also totally love that I don't have to check the ingredients on every single thing I buy when I shop at Whole Foods. I can't get through Target or Kroger doing that because avoiding things like HFCS, trans fat, MSG, and artificial flavors and colors would be a full time job there. Yes, it can be done, but it's certainly not an enjoyable grocery trip...

Lastly, everyone is always NICE at Whole Foods. I love that I see regular people there and familiar faces. There is a woman often at the check out that I really like who was there today. That made me smile and put me in a good mood. The guy who bagged my groceries is also a regular and he cracks me up. I haven't seen him do it in awhile, but he used to talk on a banana while people shopped. You read that right, he'd get a banana and pretend to use it as a phone. Only he actually did it with a straight face and for a length of time. Totally hilarious and a mega strange. But I love that. You know he is a cool guy with interesting thoughts and dreams. Not some high school kid with a bad attitude at Kroger. Again, I will gladly pay for a good experience.

I got Jewel's Lullaby album yesterday :) For those of you who don't know, I am a HUGE Jewel fan. HUGE. She can do no wrong in my book and I can listen to her records over and over again. I was excited to learn she was releasing (herself!) a Lullaby album. It's incredibly sweet. Some are classics and some are lullaby type songs she's written herself. I love listening to it and I know Lucas will too. I am going to put together a huge playlist on my iPod for him of songs like this that we can play for him in the nursery or whatnot.

My mom was so sweet yesterday. Like I blogged about earlier, I really didn't feel the need to celebrate Mother's Day for me yet and it was all kind of surreal and strange, but my mom got me a card and bought this giraffe for Lucas. We were actually out shopping Saturday and stopped in a boutique that my husband and I had been in a week or so before. He LOVED this giraffe, so I showed it to my mom and she thought we had to have it. He's SOOOOO soft and cute and will be adorable in the nursery with those colors!
And here's my Mother's Day balloon. I couldn't believe he got it and it's definitely odd to have celebrated a little bit, but it was sweet.
