Baby Shower #1

My husband and I traveled to St. Louis this weekend to visit some of his family and attend our first baby shower! I think I've only ever been to one baby shower in my life before (I was raised Jewish, so it just wasn't common where I grew up). Our hosts (Matt's cousins) did an AMAZING job! Everything, down to every little detail, was really special. The food was incredible and the decorations were totally adorable. I think there were about 10-15 people there?

We received some really, really sweet presents and actually a lot more off our registry than I was expecting. Partly because I know people tend to not buy off registries which was fine with me (baby stuff is baby stuff and it's all useful!) and also partly because we used myregistry.com which is pretty unconventional. But it actually worked out really well so I'm glad we decided to try that.

I didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked (I am so terrible about bringing my camera some place and then not really using it much), but there are some. The "theme" was footprints and was really, really cute.
Opening up some gifts.

A picture of the most yummy cake ever! Seriously, this cake was incredible!
We played games, one of which my husband one for diapering the fastest/best. Who would have thought? He's never diapered anything in his life...this gives me great hope!
I think he was actually faster than I was!
Some of the yummy food. Notice the little footprints on the chocolate covered strawberries. So sweet!
They had the cutest little onesies strung up on a clothesline - I loved that!
When we came into town we went shopping at the cloth diaper store Cotton Babies! I was really excited about this part of our trip and got a really good start on our diaper stash!

First, they had a whole wall of Baby Legs, which our so cute! Our cousin's baby wears them and she totally loves them so I had to start Lucas's Baby Leg stash. They'll be really handy for this fall, especially!

I got a package of Bum Genius bamboo wipes.
Three diaper covers in for the newborn stage, 2 thirsties and this bummies one.

Now onto the diapers! They had a ton of great quality used and "seconds" diapers for really cheap so I went with those.

I got 3 Bum Genius All in Ones in Xsmall from the seconds.
Then 5 used (which hardly looked used at all!) Kissaluv0's, only mine don't have purple stitching...they're all cream.
And I hadn't planned on getting these, but they were a really good price (seconds), so I got 3 fitted bum genius bamboo diapers.

So now we have 6 (had one already) KL0's, 3 Xsmall AIOs, and 3 bamboo fitteds. With 12 of those and at least 2 dozen prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers (a a couple more covers) I think we'll be good to go for awhile! Then we'll probably switch to some bigger prefolds and covers if we like that (such a cheap option) and pocket BG 3.0's which are one size.

All in all, it was a really nice trip. We didn't really see my in laws all that much, which was fine with me because the times we did seem them all they could do was criticize my husband's weight which is really starting to piss me off. They do it every single time they see him (even though he hasn't gained weight since we saw them in November) and now are doing it in front of other people, which I think is really rude. If he were a girl, that would be so uncalled for, but honestly, I don't see how it's any different. And they just go on and on about it. It's awful. She didn't even really talk to me at all about the baby or how we're doing except to basically tell me I am crazy for cloth diapering. Definitely got the look of "oh we'll see how long THAT lasts" and she even went as far as to say that I'll have to have disposables for when we leave the house. Um, no, I won't, but thanks.

We drove our 6 hours home and settled into bed....to what we thought would be the start of a normal week. Um no... see my next blog.
