Fall Hat

Here is it is! This is possibly one of the pieces I am most proud of for making. It didn't take all that long, but it was kind of intense. Not difficult so much to understand, but once I got to the double pointed needles closer to the 2nd half (top) of the hat, switching colors while purling that round became kind of hard to manage.

The first time I started this hat (earlier this week) I also didn't read the directions correctly and switched colors one round too late making it so the cute double colors you see in the stripes were not there, until I got to the top half and started doing it b/c I looked at the directions more closely then. So it looked dumb to do half and half and I really liked the look of that "stitching" pattern in there by having the previous color go into the new color so I frogged (ripped it all out) and started over. I worked on it Friday night and a lot yesterday afternoon and night and finished it this morning by making and attaching the pom on top!

Here is the hat pictured w/ 2 of the pairs of Baby Legs I got as a gift last weekend at our first shower. Originally I thought the bolder pair would be cutest with it, but now I am not sure the other pair might be cuter. Separated by a cute little onesie I think they both will work though and this is probably what Lucas will wear a lot this Fall!

Here is the hat w/ the book/pattern I used. The original pattern called for 6 or 8 different colors, which I planned to do, but at $13 a skein (ball of yarn) I was not about to spend all that money on 1 baby hat. Granted, I would have had A LOT leftover (and still do of the 3 skeins I bought to use, I could probably make another one or two of these), but I just didn't want to put out that much money for it. Instead I chose 3 colors that I thought would be cute for Fall (that's chocolate brown, not black) and Winter and went with that. I think it came out just as cute. I'd love to make more of these in different color versions, too. Plus, they grow so quickly that I knew this wouldn't fit him forever and spending a ton of money on a hat he will wear for maybe 6 months didn't seem smart.
And just some more pictures of it. I can't wait to put it on him!
