First Sewing Projects!

Sewing machine came yesterday! Only I had none of my fabric from fabric.com yet and no supplies! I knew the fabric was coming today, so this morning I went to Jo Ann's and got some basic supplies I'd need.

Then I came home and read in the instructions about how to plug in the sewing machine. I'm not kidding, that is where I started with all this. Thankfully, my husband has sewn before so he could help me out some when I got confused. I'm proud of what I've made so far though!

Here are my first things; cloth wipes! I have some bamboo ones that I bought, but I think I'll make the rest from now on - these were definitely so easy and so cheap. I bought 1 yard each of bamboo/cotton terry cloth and of flannel and hardly used much at all to make these 5 wipes.

So they are the terry on one side and flannel on the other. I want to experiment w/different fabrics though, too. I used different stitches partly just to play around with them and partly to make them a little more fun. Next time I think I'll use a more contrasting thread for fun as well.

I got kind of board with the wipes (definitely need to get some fun patterns and stuff for them!) so I moved on to working on the little birds for the mobile I am making. I blogged about these earlier. They are the purl bee's ornament birds that I am converting to mobile birds. :) The hardest (well, most tedious) part was tracing and cutting the fabric. Stuffing them w/ batting was hard, too, but really they're pretty easy. I haven't decided how many I will make yet, but I'm thinking 7-9 will be good for the mobile.

  1. I love the little birds - what a great idea for a mobile. I can't wait to see it when it's finished. :)
