When did you find out you were pregnant?
December 26, 2008
Was it planned?
Definitely. I had gone through a few months of fertility drugs and then started acupuncture and herbs which finally got me to ovulate and I got pregnant.
What was your first reaction?
That the test was a mistake and totally wrong. With our timing of that first cycle w/ acupuncture I just didn't think it was possible and convinced I was not pregnant.
Who was with you when you found out?
My husband was still asleep (I was merely testing b/c I had a bunch of pee sticks and was getting worried about my period since I knew, by then, exactly when I ovulated but should have gotten a period by then. I wanted to test and be able to call my Dr. and acupuncturist and tell them it was negative, so it was very early in the morning and I was up alone.
Who was the first person you told?
My husband who I woke up by screaming and waving the HPT at him. :)
How did your parents react?
They were shocked and cried. We went to Target to get a digital test that morning and bought them some baby stuff that we wrapped up and gave them that night. At first they were confused and then they got it and couldn't believe the acupuncture worked.
What was your first symptom?
I guess you could say it was the day before, on Christmas. We had a Jewish Christmas (chinese food and movies) and everything at the sushi and chinese buffet that I normally love b/c it's a decent buffet looked and tasted awful. I could hardly eat and felt like crap. Then, within days of getting our positive test my chest was incredibly sore.
How much weight have you gained?
As of 26 weeks, about 15-17 lbs.
Do you have stretch marks?
None yet
Natural or medicated birth?
Definitely natural.
Who will be in the delivery room with you?
That is still very much to be decided right now.
Will you breastfeed?
Yes, it's very, very important to me.
Do you think you'll need a c-section?
No
Will you cry when you hold the baby for the first time?
Maybe
What's the first thing you might say to him/her?
I have no idea
Would you let someone videotape the birth?
I always thought No, but my husband bought a camcorder for us and we talked about possibly doing it. I think we will (or at least parts of it) so we have it if we want it and if not, no harm done.
Are you excited about the birth, or scared?
Very excited. I've been reading a lot of natural birth related books (and have many more to read) and we took Bradley Method classes. We both feel very confident in my body and the birth process so I am not nearly as scared as when I was going into all of this.
How much does your baby weigh right now?
According to the info online, almost 2 lbs by now.
What do you think he will look like?
I'm not sure. I am anxious to see his hair color. My husband has brown hair (not too light or too dark) and mine is dirty blonde/brown, but was red when I was born and then very light blonde until I was a teen, so who knows! I think his eyes will be light (mine are green w/ blue, orange, and yellow in them and my husband's are blue) and he'll have fair skin.
Get a good night's sleep, but it's worth it.
What will you miss about pregnancy?
Everything. I love being pregnant, but I am just as excited to have our baby as well, so I will be happy to move on to the next stage.
What will you not miss about pregnancy?
Hip pain from sleeping on my sides.
What is different about this pregnancy than your last?
This is my first.
What is the same as your last pregnancy?
See above
Any cravings?
Tons. Chipwiches and other unhealthy foods. I go through spurts of super crazy healthy and complete garbage.
Who do you think is next to get pregnant out of the people you know?
I have no idea
How many kids do you want?
2-3, but I will be happy with whatever we can get since it's not exactly easy for me to get pregnant.
When will you try to have another baby?
We probably won't prevent since it's not likely I'll ovulate much, but I think I will probably start trying (as in seeking fertility help again) after about 2-3 years.
What are you most excited about?
Seeing a baby that is half me and half my husband, holding our baby, watching him grow and learn.
Where will this baby be born?
Nashville, TN
What do you think your baby will weigh and measure at birth?
I really have no idea... if I have to make a guess I am going to go with 7 lbs 8 oz. and 20 inches long. It's hard to say b/c he's always measured really well (not too big, but never too small), however we're not the biggest people ever. I'm 5'1 and my husband is 5'10 so who knows.
