Fun Stuff

This will be sort of a random post, sorry!

First off...my husband and I sat down last night and ordered the bulk of our nursery furniture. We decided on this dresser/changing table because we realized you can never have too much drawer space, I liked the extra space on top, and the cubby holes in the other one I liked would get dusty/harder to clean. Also, the other one was built too similar to the other dresser we ordered and we liked the fact that this one was a different shape.

Here is the other dresser we got.

We decided on the curvy crib. I was still pretty torn, but I had my parents come over and check them out (they were torn too, but eventually decided on the curvy). We all decided it was more "airy" than the straight one, gave some dimension to the set, and I liked the way it converted to a full size bed a bit better. It was also pointed out to me that the straight crib has bolts you can see and this one doesn't, which I think makes it look a bit nicer. Maybe that has to do w/ the price difference. I also showed the two to my best friend who agreed that curvy was a better bet w/ the other furniture, too. So curvy definitely won!
Today I went shopping w/ my parents and we went to a really posh baby store. I sat in this Best Chair (Rena style) which I never would have really thought was that spectacular from their website and this picture, but it was SOOOOO comfortable and I've heard nothing but great things about these chairs. What put me over the edge was finding a fabric in, get this... chocolate brown, creams, and white that is kind of like a weedy/wildflower print. I wish I could think of what the wildflower is called that it's made after. It's not too girly at all, so please don't think "flowers", but it will be so incredibly w/ the natural/organic look we're going for. I'm really excited! Even better, I called around to another store (USA Baby) and found the chair for $200 less than the other store was selling it for. SCORE! I am going to take my husband there tomorrow to see the fabric and possibly place the order. :) I decided against the ottoman. Not only is the chair a little more than we planned on spending (but I think it's worth it and will be useful long term and even look good in our room eventually), but I saw in it for awhile with and without the matching ottoman and using it wasn't very comfortable at all.

OK I found a picture of what the print on the fabric looks kind of like. It's whatever this is in different creams, browns, tans all over the fabric (overlapping each other) and the chocolate brown ones are a soft velvet like fabric while the rest of the fabric is cotton. I know, it probably sounds odd from my description, but it's very neat!

Hmmm now that i found it in a wall decal I wonder if we should do that too (though I might set mine up differently than this pic).

In other news... I am 20 pages into the book Pushed and am IN LOVE. So far I think this is a must read for any woman thinking about ever giving birth.

  1. We bought a best chair this time and I LOVE it! It is so comfortable and the fabric that we used can be used in our living room eventually. I actually slept in it for 2 weeks (we got a reclining glider one) after my csection so I wouldn't have to lay flat. I wanted to tell you that the Once Upon a Child in Franklin (off Royal Oaks) has custom made bedding and those chairs with all the fabric swaps and it was cheaper than USA Baby...

  3. Good! I love our house. All us girls have colds and are sick and holed up in the house- fun! When do you get to have your ultrasound for the sex? That is the best day and you will definately be spending money after that! Maybe I can come to town for a shower if you are having one in Spring Hill!

Hope you guys feel better - that is no fun :(
That would be so great to have you come down, I feel awful we haven't seen each other in forever. Nothing set in stone yet, but I will definitely keep you updated! :)

  5. My rocker was my big splurge when I was making my son's nursery. We spent $800+ on the chair and rocker and it was worth every penny. I nursed him over a year in that chair and when he was little, I could nurse and snooze and it was so comfortable. Now that he's older, we read books before bed and it is still so cozy.

I think that chair cost more than all the other baby furniture combined (we were the Craig's List masters for baby stuff) but it was so worth it. We got the ottoman, too, and I'm glad we did. But a small nursing stool would probably work in the beginning, too.
