Pretty Toes

I have pretty toes. :) And feel guilty about them. I did a not very green thing today; I got a pedicure.

Up until a few weeks ago I hadn't even let nail polish touch my nails since I've been pregnant, but my wonderful husband painting my toes for my shower and because of the fact that I can no longer wear any shoes that aren't flip flops.

Well, today my mom convinced me to go get a pedicure with her as a treat. Considering my toe nails needed to be cut and there is no way I can do that anymore, I figured what the heck and thought it would be very relaxing. I could use a little pampering, right?

I've had one other pedicure in my life. I think I was around 13 years old. haha

It was definitely relaxing and nice, but the smell in there was awful. They also do acrylic and gel nails and I know those chemicals are disgusting and toxic. I felt awful the entire time I was in there and now have the dilemma of loving pedicures and realizing I can never get them anymore because I can't bring myself to be exposed to those fumes, especially pregnant! I guess it's good for my bank account though!

  1. LOL, glad your toes are pretty!

I wanted to ask you what books you would recommend. I know you have read a lot on natural birth, green living, etc. I remember you recommending "Push" but wondered which others you'd suggest. You can just respond here, I'll come back and check. Thanks!!

  2. Hey there!
    Let's see, "Pushed" is great!
    Ina May's Guide to Childbirth
Our Bodies, Ourselves Pregnancy and Birth
Hypnobirthing (even if you're not caring about using hypnosis, the first 1/2 of this book is amazing in terms of looking at natural childbirth, what our bodies can do, how the mind/pain relationship works, etc)
    The Complete Organic Pregnancy
    Raising Baby Green
The Baby Book (and anything else by the Sears family)

I think that covers what I've personally read or am reading, but there are tons more I want to read for sure!

  4. Try an Aveda salon! I know what you mean about loving/hating pedicures. If you can find a salon that does pedicures with Aveda products then your addiction may return.

  5. BM - you and I are on the same page - I love Aveda (besides the expense of a pedicure there!) I used to work for one and it's a long story but the one in my town I can no longer visit (something to do with my boss and issues w/ them as a past client. :( )

It's annoying though b/c even at the Aveda salon (when I worked there) they would do acrylic nails. Not often, but they did offer them and it smelled. I think that goes against what Aveda stands for, but they didn't care.
